Darwin Schultz is my father. Dad's father was Harry Roy Washington Schultz, and his mother was Nellie Lindsey Hedger Schultz. He had three brothers: Harley McCracken, Marshall Frank and Alvin Russell. He met his only sweetheart at the age of 12 and eventually married her, my mother, Esther May Engle on May 29, 1942. They had four daughters, Margaret Lee, Kathleen Anne, Darlene Marie and Pamela Jean; four sons, Darwin Lynn (Butch), Michael David, Thomas Jeffrey and Robert Harry.
During WWII, Dad was inducted into the Army 1/28/43 and served as a weapons repair technician, and then mustered out soldiers at the end of the war until his own discharge date of 3/11/46. His three brothers served overseas during the war, but he never left the States. Following the war, Dad went to work at the Wadsworth Watch Company in Dayton, KY as a tool and die maker, and from 1950 to 1967 at Nutone in Cincinnati, OH as a tool maker and then as a tool and die designer. From 1967 until his retirement in 1988 he worked at Senco Products in Cincinnati as a tool and die designer. Throughout his career he was known as Don Schultz to his fellow employees.
Dad had many hobbies and interests including archeology, fishing, wine making, cooking, woodworking, and designing, building and flying model airplanes. He was always there to lend a hand when someone needed help with a repair or project, and used to say that my mother would always portray him as the only guy who could fix it as she would frequently volunteer his services! She was very proud of him.
He died at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Edgewood, KY. Cause of death: Abdominal aortal aneurysm.
