George E. Engle was of foreign birth, born in Germany, Sept. 26, 1823. He departed this life Oct. 26, 1905, aged 82 years and 1 month. In the year 1837 he came to Ross County, Ohio, and was there united in marriage with Sarah Creakbaum in the year 1846. They then moved to Kosciusko County, Indiana, where they toiled together until death called mother Engle home, May 29, 1888. To this union were born eleven children, ten of whom are still living, Katherine, Issac, John, Anna, Hanna, George, Randolph (sic), Jacob, Rosella, David and Pierce, Rosella having proceeded her father to the spirit world. He leaves forty-seven grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. The funeral occurred Friday at Beaver Dam, conducted by Rev. Miner and interment in the Hammond Cemetery.
