Married Deborah Williams circa 1781 in New York.

A Methodist minister; Reverend Matthew Van Duzen moved his family from Dutchess County, New York via wagon to Pittsburgh in the Spring of 1816,then on to Cincinnati by flatboat where he settled and was active with the Methodist Episcopal Church until his death in 1820. He was originally interred at the Catherine Street Burying Grounds, which was located in what is now downtown Cincinnati. He was moved to Wesleyan Cemetery in the early 1860's due to property development.
