Sgt.Lincoln Abraham was serving with the US army during WWII in Belgium when the Germany troops started their push to drive the US forces back to the sea during the first days of the Battle of the Bulge. In a delaying action as the Germans approached Ligneville Belgium, a squad of 8 men were captured by the Germans, lined up and each one shot in the head. All died on the spot except one.

The residents of Ligneville were so thankful the Americans saved their residents, they erected a large monument as a memorial to honor the 7 brave American's who gave their lives that December day. They built and maintain a beautiful monument that contains a plaque with the names for the murdered soldiers: Sgt.Lincoln Abraham, Sgt.Joseph F. Collins, T/4 Caspar S. Johnston, T/5 John M. Borcina, Pvt.Clifford H. Pitts, Pvt.Nick C. Sulliven, Pvt.Gerald R. Carter.

After the war, the families of three men had them returned to the States for burial. Nick Sullivan is buried in Kentucky, Gerald Carter in Kansas, and Lincoln Abraham in Minnesota, the rest remain buried in Belgium.

These men and what they did has been written about in at least 6 books and records of the war trials regarding what happened to them are on file in the National Archives.
