William Joseph Scott, familiarly known as "Uncle Billie" died at his home near Idabell, Oklahoma from injuries received when a mule he was riding on Chincapin mountain, near his home, fell on him. Mr. Scott left his house mounted on a mule Sunday morning looking for his hogs. Not returning Sunday night, his folks and neighbors, 200 to 300 organized a hunting party Monday morning and searched the country until Wednesday morning when he was found on Chincapin mountain by D.J. Griffin, a merchant of Idabel, who gave the signal. Mr. Scott was found lying on his saddle just as he had fallen. Mr. Scott told the story of how his mule had fallen on him, and how he used his knife in cutting the girth that let the mule up. The injured man was carried to his home, four miles away, where he was given medical attention. He died on Thursday. Mr. Scott moved to McLennan County in 1883 and then to Jones County in 1885, living in one community east of Anson for 33 years moving to Idabell, Oklahoma in 1918. He was born in Marion County, Alabama. He was married twice. To the first wife, there were two children born - Mrs. Charlie Harris and Mrs. Jeff Partin. He was married to his surviving wife in May of 1892 in Bosque County, Texas. To this union, the following children survive - Mrs. Bob Carman, Mrs. Dona Hartin, Henry Scott, Mrs. Bob Blanton, Mrs. Sam McQuerry, Mrs. Claude Scruggs, Alva Scott, Jessie Scott, Johnnie Scott, William Gee Scott, P.J.
