The wife of Joseph Robbins and the beloved mother of Stanley Robbins. Helen Paine Robbins was a poet and also kept diaries, according to Janet Lee Haeger, her great great granddaughter. Janet now owns the diaries that were written by Helen. As a child, Janet states that she would often look at her great great grandmother's photo and thought that she was looking at a picture of a gypsy. Janet also states that Helen Paine Robbins was known as Harwich's "town beauty" in her day. The last entry in Helen's diary was: "baby born today...am (This was June 16th which is Helen Robbins Drake's birthday).Six or seven weeks later, Helen Paine Robbins was dead from what was described as "brain fever." The day before she died, according to her diary, she made four pies--two lemon and two mince. She was very close to her son, Stanley. Janet Haeger states: "I always spent time studying her photo." Some of the topics in her diary were the weather; her son, Stanley; what her husband was doing; daily visitors. She spent a lot of time cooking, cleaning, sewing etc. As Janet re-reads her diaries, more information will be added to this memorial.
