From the Sullivan Democrat Newspaper, May 11, 1897:
Uncle Bede Johnson died Tuesday morning at his home in this place, after a period of sickness lasting all winter.
He was seventy-nine years old and had spent the greater part of his life in this community and was universally recognized as one of our best citizens and a man of sterling worth and integrity.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock, conducted by W. A. Fox.
