The death of Ira Darling of Sand Plains occurred last Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from tuberculosis after a prolonged illness extending over a period of two years. During the past thirteen weeks he had been confined to his bed and was quite a sufferer. His death was not unexpected. He was well known throughout this vicinity and his many
friends feel keenly their loss. Mr. Darling was 68 years old and was born in Collommer, and passed most of his youthful days there. At the age of twenty-one he married Miss Catherine Stevens of Chittenango Station, who died several years ago, survived by a daughter, Mrs. Matilda Goodell of Chittenango Station. Some years later he was married a second time to Miss Helen Tapling of Kirkville, who still survives him. In 1861, Mr. Darling enlisted and served during the Civil war until in 1864, when he received an honorable discharge and returned to his home in Sand Plains. Most of his time was spent in farming and he was successful. Besides a wife and daughter he is survived by a
step-daughter, Mrs. Wilber of Chittenango Station. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in North Manlius, Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock; the Rev. Mr. Croft
officiating. Interment took place in the North Manlius cemetery.
