Elizabeth was the third of eleven children born to Alvis A. and Jane (McCullough) Harper. She married Russell Owens Bean in 1856 and they were the parents of five children: Emma Jane, Jordan Neil, Milton Jasper, Maynard Solomon Sr., and Nettie Servenia.

Elizabeth Ann Harper was born January 13, 1839 near Atlanta, Georgia; was united in marriage with Russell Owens Bean in Gonzales County, Texas, February 24, 1856; she, in company with her family, came to Montana in the year 1884, where she has since resided; she was the mother of five children: Mrs. Emma J. Smith, Forsyth; Jordan N. Bean, Bowler, Carbon County, Montana; Milton Bean, Monida, Montana; Solomon M. Bean, Lee, Montana and Mrs. N. S. Crawshaw, Forsyth; she has 25 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, one of whom, Fern Sears, is living with her great-grandparents.
Mrs. Russell Owens Bean was a woman dearly beloved by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance; of a kind and unassuming nature, but whose heart was ever beating for other's woes. She bore every trail with a cheerfulness and aptitude which instilled in others a desire to be more righteous and commanded their love, respect and admiration and bespeaking a character of the most transcending beauty. She believed in immersion and in 1857 was baptized into the Christian Church in the Guadalupe River, Gonzales County, Texas. Though for the past few years her failing health has not permitted her to take an active part in Christian work, her heart has ever been with it and in all ways possible she has rendered valuable assistance.
Her life since girlhood has been passed in the hardships of the frontier. Many there be among us today who well know the trails and danger of frontier life. Mrs. Bean bore these bravely; was a faithful, kind and loving wife and mother.
For some years she had been suffering from cardiac asthma, brought on by fatty degeneration of the heart. A few days ago the spells became more severe and yesterday, near the noon hour, after a brave struggle, she passed away. The funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the Methodist Church, Rev. Leland officiating.
