Charles was the fifth of six children born to Russell Owens and Lydia Katherine (Sanford) Bean. He married Phyliss Joyce Kreager in 1955 and they had one son: Dennis Charles Randash.

In Car Accident Near Baker Sunday
Charles (Chuck) Bean, 27, Banker, was killed early Sunday morning, when his car struck a telephone pole while he was driving west on Highway 12. His body was discovered by accident, as apparently he had not disclosed intention of his trip. John Karch discovered the body and car Monday, after he noticed Sunday that a telephone pole approximately 2 1/2 miles west of Baker had been hit and was leaning.
When he went to work in his field near there Monday morning, he stood up on the tractor and looked into the gully and discovered the car and driver. He notified law enforcement officials, who immediately went to the scene of the accident.
County Attorney Gene Huntley gave us the above information Monday morning and at that time he stated that Coroner Lee Stevenson had stated he thought an investigation was not necessary, but later it was deemed advisable to hold an inquest.
A coroner's jury consisting of Eddie Nelson, Coleman Krokker, Louis LaCross, Mert Malek, Roland Gift and Duane Dullum was set for Tuesday evening at the court house at 7 o'clock.
Sheriff Leo Steffes, Undersheriff Cameron and Police Chief Bob Townsend had all taken part in the investigation into the odd circumstances surrounding the accident. Steffes testified at the inquest that Bean had driven about 150 feet on the shoulder of the wrong (south) side of the road before finally plunging over the grade and down onto the flat. The car then hit a telephone pole, knocking a piece out of it, and proceeded along the bank of the creek, plunging over it and coming to rest. Steffes opined the car was not traveling too fast, because when the pole was broken, the top portion should have swung out by the force of the blow and allowed the car to go by unscratched. The car, however, was dented on top when the pole swung back and hit its top. That, coupled with the fact that the car was only slightly damaged by its fall into the creek caused Steffes to believe the car was proceeding with moderate speed.
Dr. C.F. Hogeboom testified that probable cause of death was a dislocated neck. He said that a skull fracture had also been suffered in the accident but that it probably was not severe enough to have caused death at once. It was Dr. Hogenboom's opinion that death had been instantaneous. He also testified that the circumstances led him to believe that Bean was leaning to his right and was not right behind the wheel at the moment of impact. It was theorized that he might have been suffering from a cramp or making an adjustment under the dash to put him in this position.
Juror Krokker questioned Dr. Hogeboom regarding Bean's health and operations Bean had recently undergone. Krokker inquired if it was possible that Bean could have been suffering from a cramp from an adhesion, and as a consequence been in such a position. Dr. Hogeboom felt that such a circumstance was very possible.
From investigations made by police, it was determined that the accident probably happened about 7 o'clock Sunday morning. The body was discovered about 10:30 a.m., Monday.

Shortly after their marriage, Chuck was crusted in a truck accident and since then he had been in and out of the hospital here and at Miles city. He is survived by his wife and infant son. Several brothers and sisters reside at Forsyth, Montana.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Oliver Jones, at the Baker Community Church, at 2 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 12). The body is at Stevenson Funeral Home and burial will be at Bonnievale cemetery.
