Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover, 11, of 124 Northampton Avenue, a 6th grade student at New Leadership Charter School, departed this life on Monday, April 6, 2009, at home. Born in Springfield, he is the son of Benjamin Carl Hoover Jr. and Sirdeaner Walker. A lover of sports, Carl was active with 5A Football, soccer with Holy Name School, and basketball at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. He was a member of the W.E.B. Dubois Academy operated by the Black Men of Greater Springfield, Boy Scout Troop 35, and the Elms College Quest Program. Besides his parents, Sirdeaner Walker of Springfield and Benjamin Carl Hoover Jr. of Maryland, he is survived by two brothers, Charles Walker-Hoover of Springfield and Olandon Johnson of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Dominique Walker and Gloria Walker-Hoover both of Springfield; grandparents Dorcas Walker of Springfield and Benjamin Charles Hoover, Sr. of St. Louis; his great-grandparents; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
