I first met Karen in the summer of 1983 while pulling weeds and ivy (whew!) out of my hedge in front of my house in Southeast Portland, Oregon. She and her future husband, Dan, were driving on my street and stopped behind me to introduce themselves. They lived on the street behind me and invited me over for a visit that evening. When I went over, I was met by two very big dobermans, Baron and Dusty, their guard dogs who sniffed me and instantly knew I had kitties at my house. We had a lot of things in common and became good friends over the months that they lived in my neighborhood. They married in August, 1984, and I was invited to their reception, where I met more mutual friends. We would watch wrestling and debate whether it was real or faked, even attending matches when they came to town (which is a whole different story!) and were at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon. I met many nice people thru them and had fun going to see Dire Straits when they played in Portland. We remained friends thru their many moves to different places in Portland and then out to Colton (where I drove in the snow to celebrate New Year's Day with them one year) and back to Portland. During these moves, there was a time that they couldn't have their dogs with them and Dusty and Baron came to live with me, in @1987. The dogs were good with my kitties (I now had four) and well behaved. Karen and Dan told me I'd spoiled them and had bonded with them, so the dogs remained with me the rest of their days and Karen got a new doberman she named Brutus. She and Dan separated in @1990 and divorced. Karen and I remained friends, going up to ride horses in Vancouver, WA during the summer of 1994, which we really enjoyed, among other things. She had been raised on a farm and ridden horses while growing up in Missouri, and missed riding. Her son, Tim, came to live with her and she spent time with him and somehow we kind of lost contact with each other until last year when she called me. We talked about the old times, concerts we'd gone to, so many memories we had from the past 30 years, and, although we both were busy with our separate lives, we kept in touch every few months. I was going to call her the other day but got side tracked with doctors appointments, etc. How I wish I'd taken the time to call her one last time as her son called me just a few hours ago to tell me she passed away yesterday morning from heart failure. There will be a celebration of life held here in Portland for her, but her ashes will be taken back to the farm she grew up on in Missouri to be scattered, her final wish that she relayed to her son last summer. Karen, I'm going to miss you...... how I wish I'd called one last time. Rest well, dear lady.

Info: Her father is Gweldon Lee Paschall who died in 1990 and is buried in Tigard, Washington Co., OR.
