Musician. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was a master jazz artist of the trumpet and flugelhorn. In the 1940s to 1950s, he played in the bands of Benny Carter, Jay McShann, Lionel Hampton and many others. In the early 1960s, he established the Art Farmer trio which recorded albums to include "Sing Me Softly of the Blues" (1965), "A Sleeping Bee" (1974) and "One the Road" (1976). During the 1980s, he joined Benny Golson's group 'The Jazztet' for recording sessions and toured Europe.
