Ruby Ardus Gosch, 82, of Mapleton died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, with the Rev. Linda Boggs and the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Gosch was born Dec. 13. 1915, in Crawford County in Iowa, the daughter of Ernest W. and Selma Margaret (Hanneman) Rickert.

She married Edward C. Gosch Sr. on Nov. 13, 1937, in Vermillion, S.D.

She taught school from 1935 to 1938 and returned to teaching in 1949. She retired from the Westwood Community Schools in 1978.

The couple began farming in 1938 in Cooper Township. They farmed in the Mapleton community until 1966, when they moved into Mapleton.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed quilting and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Janyce L. Lee of Denver, Karen J. Kennedy and her husband, Noel, of Minneapolis, Carolyn C. Pierce and her husband, Tom, of Mapleton, Ruby A. Owens and her special friend, Larry Kuzler, of Orville, Calif., and LouAnn M. Gray and her husband, Roger, of Omaha, Neb.; a son and his wife, Edward V. Jr. and Lora of Omaha; a sister, Elvira Stockfleth of Mapleton; 14 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister; a grandson, Michael Owens; and a great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Bret A. Lee, Tom and Steve Owens, Jason and Mark Pierce and Brian Gosch.
