Dorothy C. Brent, 79, of Sioux City died Sunday, July 19, 1998, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William H. Steward officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8:30 p.m., at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brent was born May 26, 1919, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Hans Christian and Caroline Julianna (Jacobsen) Gosch. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1936.

She married Donald Eugene Brent on Feb. 16, 1937, in Leeds, Iowa. He died Jan. 7, 1988.

The couple farmed in various Northwest Iowa areas. They lived in the Havelock, Iowa, area for 13 years and in the Pocahontas, Iowa, area for 39 years, before returning to the Sioux City area in 1993.

She graduated from Burnel Beauty School in Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1965. She owned and operated Brent's Beauty Salon in Pocahontas for 18 years. She also sold Wisconsin Homes from 1984 to 1993.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Women Writers, all in Pocahontas.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Donald E. Jr. and Suzanne of Fort Morgan, Colo., Craig and Judy of Lyons, Colo., Barry and Sue of Le Mars, Iowa, and Rick and Sally of Loveland, Colo.; three daughters and their husbands, Cleo and Roger Hansen of Sioux City, Julie and Arvin Nelson of Sergeant Bluff and Diann and Jim Hotovec of Marshall, Minn.; a brother, Ed Gosch of Mapleton; three sisters-in-law, Hallie and her husband, Clifford Cook, of Havelock, Ruby Areman and Dorothy Philip, both of Sergeant Bluff; 27 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be Randy, Brian and Chad Brent, Eric Hansen, Hans Nelson, Mathew Hotovec and Kari Swift.
