Carl, one of twelve children of Danish immigrants who settled in Crawford County, Iowa, was married on 20 November 1907 in Charter Oak, Iowa. He spent his career in the banking industry.

He and Cora ("Code") were parents to Eula Maurine Jacobsen Summerwill (1908 - 2007) and Charles C. Jacobsen (1910 - 1993).
