Sarah came with her family to Washington County about 1852. She married Milton Lingo in 1856, and they had seven children. After his return from service with the 22nd Iowa Infantry in the Civil War, the family farmed near Riverside in Washington County.

Her siblings included John Q. Marling (10th Iowa Infantry, 1861-62) and Samuel Marling (22nd Iowa Infantry, 1862-65).

She is buried near her husband, parents, and several children.
