AARS PAUL CHARLES was born on the island of Curacao, Netherland Antilles, on June 4, 1934 and died peacefully in his sleep on January 23, 2002 at age 67. His kind and loving soul will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Paul is survived by his wife, Anita Aars of San Mateo, son Richard C. Aars of Orinda, sister Yannie Tremaine of Enid, OK, stepmother Pauline Aars of Costa Rica, step children Toni Manrubia of Gilroy, Sonja Nelson of Santa Barbara, and Dean Nelson of San Mateo, and close family friend Judy Navas. He adored his grandaughters Heather Aars, Megan Manrubia, Brittany Manrubia, Brianna Nelson and Sinead Nelson. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Charles Aars from Java, Indonesia, and mother Elisa Aars from Amesterdam, Holland. Paul was very proud of his Dutch heritage, loved tulips and jazz, and was an avid reader. In his earlier years he was a stock car racer, water skier, snow skier and adventure pilot. He was a loyal member and Trustee of the Teamsters Local #665 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Paul enjoyed traveling with his family to Europe and Costa Rica and was happiest when he was giving to children. He spent the last several years as a reading tutor to 1st graders at the North Shoreview Montessori School in San Mateo, where he was known to all as "Grandpa". Paul's compassionate and honorable character had a major impact on those whose lives he touched-he was a father figure to so many young people. He was truly a gentle gentleman who gave freely of his love to others, and , in honor of his love of children, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the "Save the Children" foundation, of which he has been a sponsor since the early 1980's. Friends are invited to attend Funeral Service on Sunday, January 27, 2002 at 2:00 pm in the Grand Chapel of Albert Brown Mortuary. Albert Brown Mortuary 3476 Piedmont Ave., Oakland (510) 652-1873.
