Ptl. Harry Passmore Cloud (Delaware River & Bay Authority Police Dept.) was born on 7 Oct. 1924 in Talleyville, De.. His parents were Emerson & Ida (Murch) Cloud. The family resided in Talleyville.
Prior to WWII, Ptl. Cloud worked for Diamond Ice & Coal Co. in Wilmington. Ptl. Cloud was a combat veteran of WWII, having seen action in England & France with the 444th Anti-Aircraft Artillery.
He married Dorothy Minner on 1 Mar. 1943. They lived at 1021 W. 4th St. in Wilmington for a time & later at 211 N. Maryland Ave. Eventually, they would settle into their home on Ebright Rd. in Claymont, De. They had two sons. Prior to becoming a police officer, Ptl. Cloud worked for Anchor Motor Freight Co.
Ptl. Cloud had been with the DRBAPD for approx. 19 months when, on 2 Jul. 1955, he was struck & killed by a motorist while he was placing marking cones near a toll booth. Ptl. Cloud was 30 years old. He is buried in Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery in Wilmington, De.

Patrolman Harry Cloud was struck by a vehicle and killed while walking next to a toll booth on the Delaware side of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. He had just finished setting cones to divert traffic into toll lanes when he was hit by a car and thrown about 40 feet. He was treated at the scene by a doctor and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Delaware Hospital. Troopers measured 73 feet of skid marks at the scene of the accident and estimated the vehicle had hit him at 40 miles per hour in the 25 miles per hour zone. The driver was charged with manslaughter. Patrolman Cloud was a veteran of World War II, having seen combat duty in England and France with the 444th Anti-aircraft Artillery. He was survived by his wife, two sons, parents, four sisters, three brothers, a half-brother.
