Mr. Jonkiert was the Democratic representative for the 5th District from 1971-1996. Prior to getting into politics, he worked as an executive secretary for the City of Wilmington's water department. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Maplewood Senior Center. He loved to spend time at his beach house.
Mr. Jonkiert's wife, Theresa (DiCinque) passed away in 1979. He is survived by sons, Christopher P. Jonkiert and his wife Andrea, with whom he lived and Stephen Jonkiert of Wilmington, DE; daughters, Margaret Hansen and her husband Glenn of CA and Elizabeth Jonkiert of Wilmington, DE; and 2 grandchildren, Michael Krzyanowski and Stephen Jonkiert.
