FRITZ C. HOCHMUTH IS CALLED BY DEATH
Well-Known Resident Died Saturday Evening at 7:00 o'clock at His Home
Fritz C. Hochmuth, for over 48 years a resident of Staunton, passed away at his home at 609 East Montgomery Street Saturday evening at 7:00 o'clock. Mr. Hochmuth had been ailing for the past three years, but had been able to be about. His condition became serious some three weeks ago, and a brief stay at the St. Francis Hospital seemed to benefit him, but the improvement was of short duration, and death claimed him at the above mentioned time. He was aged 75 years, 10 months and 24 days.
Fritz Hochmuth was born in Saxony, Germany, on October 13, 1864. He grew to manhood in his native land, and was united to Miss Anna Hermann. In 1892 they came to this country, settling in Staunton, where Mr. Hochmuth followed his vocation as a coal miner. His wife passed away in 1905, and the following year he married Mrs. Emelia Fleming of Mt. Olive, who preceded him in death in 1926.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Huntman Funeral Home, Rev. A. J. Habermehl officiating. Interment was at the Staunton City Cemetery.
Surviving the venerable gentleman are: three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Fowler of St. Louis and Mrs. Linda Jenne and Miss Hilda Hochmuth of Staunton; two sons, Ernst Hochmuth of Baldwin, Ill., and Paul Hochmuth of Staunton; three step-daughters, Mrs. Anna Stille of Detroit, Mich., Miss Louise Fleming of Chicago and Mrs. Paula Schmidt of Staunton; three step-sons, William, Edward and Henry Fleming of Staunton. One step-son Curt Fleming passed away in 1921. He is also survived by one brother Ernst Hochmuth of Mt. Olive; 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, as well as other more distant relatives and a host of close friends.
Mr. Hochmuth was an unassuming gentleman who strove at all times to do those things which would please his family and friends. He was of a kindly disposition, taking great pride in his family and his home. He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Church, and during his active years was an ardent worker in that congregation. His was a long and useful life. May his reward be exceeding peace.
