Ernest S. Spence, Jr.

Age 85 of Bear, DE passed away Monday, May 27, 2002 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Spence worked for E.I. DuPont as the director of security. He was a retired captain of the Delaware State Police. He proudly served with the Delaware State Police between the years of 1943 & 1963. He founded and was president of the Spence Protective Agency in 1968 and continued his work until his illness in 1987. Mr. Spence was a Past Master of St. John's Masonic Lodge #2 in New Castle and served the people of the State of Delaware as a state representative from 1969-1970, and was the New Castle County sheriff from 1971-1973. He served in the Delaware National Guard and was a member of the Red Lion Evangelical Free Church in Bear, DE.

Mr. Spence is survived by his wife, Ann C. (Dalecki) Spence; sons, Ernest S. Spence, III, Representative Terry R. Spence, Gary R. Spence; and a daughter, Patricia A. Browan. His sister, Jean Coover; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 nieces; and 3 nephews also survive him.
