Mr. John C. Schwind III, age 58, of Wilmington, DE, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at his home surrounded by his beloved family.

Born in Wilmington on March 31, 1949, Mr. Schwind was a 1967 graduate of Brandywine High School and also attended Brandywine College. He proudly served his country in the Delaware Army National Guard and his community as a respected 20-year veteran of the Wilmington Police Department.

Following his retirement as a police sergeant in 1989, Mr. Schwind accepted a position in executive security with the Hercules Corporation, where he was employed for 13 years. He later worked in security for Wilmington Trust for 5 years. Among his professional affiliations, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Delaware Association of Police.

Mr. Schwind loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Brandywine Valley Baptist Church. A gifted athlete from his youth, he greatly enjoyed playing baseball throughout his life-excelling as a pitcher-as well as playing golf.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Linda Brooks Schwind; 2 daughters, Lindsay S. Sanderson and her husband, Robert; and Jenna S. Vincent and her husband, Christopher; his mother, Eleanor Egnor Schwind; and his sister, Charlotte S. Bickling, all of Wilmington, DE. He was preceded in death by his father, John C. Schwind, Jr.
