3rd Sgt., Co F, 6th Texas Cavalry, Ross' Brigade.
Father was Thomas McKee Ellis, mother was Mary Witt. Came to Texas in 1846 with his parents who settled in the Lancaster area. Enlisted 25 March 1862 Clarksville, AR, wounded at Lovejoy Station, GA 16 Nov 1864. POW Citronelle, AL when Gen. Richard Taylor surrendered the Dept. of AL, MS, and Eastern LA to Federal Gen. Canby on 04May1865.
Married 05 Oct 1870 in Dallas county, TX to Fannie C. Stewart born 06 Dec 1849 died 21 July 1884. Second marriage to Sarah A. Sinclair born 7 Jan 1838 died 19 Mar 1915. Single family marker on grave. Survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter.
