He was preceded in death by his parents, George Oscar Cox, Sr. of Tennessee and Minnie Horton Cox of Tuscaloosa.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineermen Labor Lodge 769 and served as Chairman for 24 years. He retired from G.M.&O Railroad on October 30, 1982, after 42 years of service.
He enjoyed shaped-note singing and playing with his grandchildren.
