Ervin P. Evans, Civil War Vet Is Dead At 85 Son Of Pioneer Buhl Family Succumbs To Pneumonia; Funeral Today
Ervin P. Evans, 85 year-old Confederate Veteran and descendant of a pioneer Tuscaloosa county family died early this morning at his home in Northport. Pneumonia which followed several months of previous illness was immediate cause for his death. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in Big Creek Baptist Church near Coker, the Rev. B. F. Atkins of Northport officiating. The aged veteran served in the confederate infantry during the War Between the States, receiving flesh wounds on one leg and in the back. He was the son of Samuel and Harriet Evans, early settlers of the Buhl section, coming from South Carolina in 1835. He spent most of his life as a farmer in the Coker community, moving to Northport 10 years ago. He is survived by one son, K. M. Evans of Northport; and three grand-children, Dr. A. P. Evans of Northport; Mrs. S. A. Rutherford of Birmingham; and Dr. K. P. Evans of Sylacauga.
Pallbearers for services this afternoon will be Bernice Stone, Otis Stone, H. C. Deason, Joe Shamblin, John Anders, Tom Powell. Jones and Spigener is in charge of arrangements
