Paul "Jim" Midlam former Crestview Superintendent. Born March 12, 1925 in Findlay, Ohio. Father – Paul Sherwood Midlam of Marion, Ohio. Mother – Geneva Irene Baker of Liepsic, Ohio. Graduate Marion Harding H.S., 1943 in Marion Ohio. Served 3 years in New Guinea and Philippines in the 530th Lt. Pontoon Engineers. Married Barbara Jean Blue on June 12, 1946 in Marion, Ohio. Children: Larry Midlam (Pat) of Ortonville, Michigan; Villabeth Tayler (William) of Dexter, Michigan; Max Midlam of Tucson, Arizona; and Ellen Businger (James) of Washington, C.H., Ohio. Married Anna Mae Gosnell McCormic on April 28, 2007 in Ashland, Ohio. Step children: Carol Snider (Dave) of Jasper, Georgia; David McCormic (Sara) of Ashland County, Ohio; Susan Walker (Steve) of Westerville, Ohio. Thirty-six grand and great-grandchildren. Graduated from The Ohio State University in 1949 with a B.S. in Education; Miami University in 1957 with a Masters in Educational Administration; also attended Purdue University in 1959; Ohio Wesleyan University in 1961, and Bowling Green University in 1975. Jim was a high school teacher and coach for 17 years in Marion County Ohio Schools and Wilmington City Schools. High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent in Marion County Schools for 11 years. Superintendent of Crestview Schools in Richland County Ohio for 6 years. Retired in 1983 with 36 years in education. Taught beginning genealogy class at OSU branch, Marion, Ohio. Scoutmaster Boy Scouts of America, Marion County, Ohio for 3 years. Boy Scout Troop Committee Chairman for 9 years. Member of Lions Club for 33 years serving as president in 2 different Lions Clubs. Sunday school teacher of young adults for 8 years at the Community United Methodist Church in Marion County, Ohio. Girls' softball director in 2 different communities. Recreation Director in Columbus, Marion, and Wilmington, Ohio. Member of Marion Area and Ashland Genealogical Societies. First President of Marion Area Genealogy Society. Member of First Families of the Ohio Genealogy Society. Co-authored Tombstone Inscriptions of Marion County Ohio and Waldo Township and Pleasant Township Cemeteries, Marion County Ohio. Wrote The History of the Jacob Hecker, Sr. Family in America, The Ancestors and Descendants of Asa and Rebecca Brown Sherwood and Midlams in America – Ancestors and Descendants. Was an avid bird watcher and assisted with the Audubon Christmas count for several years. Was a lifelong Buckeye fan, and after retirement was an antique dealer. Also received the Ohio Genealogy Fellows Award. Attended Dickey Church of the Brethren. Services will be held at Dickey Church of the Brethren on Tuesday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tom Zuercher officiating and visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
