Musician. Known to his many fans as "The Haze," he was a rocakabilly artist who developed an international cult following. Born in Boone County, West Virginia, he was the son of a coal miner, andtaught himself to play guitar, harmonica, and percussion. He became known on the American rockabilly scene in the 1950s, but eventually seemed to fade into obscurity in the United States; however, a European fan base kept his music alive. American rediscovered Adkins' music after American punk band "The Cramps" recorded one of his most notorious tracks, "She Said." Renewed collector and music fan interest revived his career, especially after it became known that he was still playing shows and making recordings. Adkins' "The Hunch" and "The Chicken Walk" were dance craze records that became avant-garde classics. Considered by music critics to be a paragon of "outsider" music, many of his early recordings were subsequently re-released, finding new audiences.
