Giorgina Cerne Saitz was my maternal great-grandmother was born in Trieste, Italy, to Carla Susa and Carlo Cerne. She was the only daughter who made it to adulthood. Another one Mariuccia died in infancy.

At age 18 she became pregnant and married Vittorio Fracarossi. Their only child was born, they named her Dolores.
As a young woman she worked at the local pharmacy where she made life long friends, one I met was Maria.

Vittorio died at an early age. Giorgia continued working and being dedicated to her family.

Giorgia's life changed even more when her cousin Maria died, soon after giving birth to a sickly baby. The little boy Licio, came to live with Giorgia and her family. It was at that time that a relationship blossomed between little Licio's father Alcide Saitz and grandmother Giorgia started. They married many years later. Giorgia raised little Licio as her own, he was her son as much as if she had given birth to her.

At some point during the marriage Alcide got a job for the Mondadori Publishing and Printing Company. They moved to Verona, in the Veneto region, where they remained until their deaths. When Alcide died of cancer in 1982 it was a tremendous blow to Giorgina. She remained in mourning (wearing the traditional black clothing). She missed her beloved husband and despite her family being there for her, she always felt alone without her Alcide.

After Alcide's death she would spend part of the year in Verona where she lived and also where Licio and family also resided. Then for part of the year she would come and spend a few months with us in Rimini. Grandma Giorgia would stay with us for a few months and I remember clearly the first Christmas she spent with us, the first Christmas since Alcide's death in September. I have some great and funny memories of those months when Giorgina lived with us. She hated going back to Verona but felt she had to go since her son Licio and his family were there and also she had to tend to her apartment. We wanted her to live with us permanently but she always refused and only visited and stayed with us for several months in the Winter. It didn't matter that we were her biological family. To her Licio and his family were the same.

She joined her husband Alcide and other beloved family members in November of 1991, exactly a week after her 81st birthday. At the time of her death she was survived by her daughter Dolores and her son-in-law David, her step son Licio (who she always considered her own), and his wife Gabriella. She was also grandmother to Denise and a great-grandaughter Jessica. In Italy she was survived by her grandson Davide, his wife Graziella and their son Mirko. He was my Great Grandma's only great grandson and she loved that little baby dearly. Also survived by her only remaining brother Giuseppe Cerne and his wife Arianna of Trieste. Preceded in death by her second husband Alcide Saitz.
She was a devoted Catholic who always prayed the rosary and attended Mass regularly. She enjoyed watching television and playing board games with her family.

Age: 81 years, 0 months, and 7 days.

Cause of Death: Heart Attack one morning.

First buried at the Cimitero Monumentale in Verona, in September 2002, she was reinterred in the cemetery (niches only) of San Michele.
