Ballerina. She studied with the Russian St Petersburg Imperial School and with the Italian Caterina Beretta. She was the leading ballerina of Sergey Diaghilev's Ballets Russes from its beginning in 1909 until 1922. Between 1909 and 1914 , paired with Nijinsky until 1913, she created the majority of famous roles in Fokine's Neoromantic repertoire, including "Les Sylphides," "Le Spectre de la Rose," "Carnival," "Firebird," "Petrushka," and "Thamar." She married a British diplomat in 1917 and moved to London. She coached Margot Fonteyn in some of her former roles, such "Firebird" and "Giselle."
