Specialist 4 Jerry Lafayette was the 1st Concrete High School graduate to give his life in the war in Vietnam. The 21 yr old was killed in action in Thua Thien, South Vietnam as the result of enemy action. He was the first Upper Skagit man to become a casualty of the Vietnam War. He was a senior at Concrete High School when he was drafted. He was united in marriage to Ellen Gay Dellinger on 19 Dec 1970. He began his tour in Vietnam with the B-2/501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Div. on 20 Feb 1971.
