Senior Airman Daniel B. Miller, JR. was killed in a roadside bomb attack Sunday, January 7, 2007 in Al-Mahmudiyah, Iraq. Three airmen assigned to the 447th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron's explosive ordnance division were killed and one wounded in the attack.

Dan cared deeply about his brothers and sisters, and was known for his closeness to his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and an ability to make everyone feel as though they fit in. Dan was a quiet leader who did not expect to be praised for doing the right thing; he led by example.

His is survived by his father and stepmother, Daniel & Shari Miller; his mother and stepfather, Robin & Daniel Mahnesmith . He is also survived by his girlfriend, Dana Sopher; 2 brothers, Tim Miller, and Anthony Mahnesmith, a step brother, Derek Peck; 3 sisters, April Miller, Lisa Miller, and Lydia Mahnesmith, and 3 step sisters, Lori Mahnesmith, Danielle (and Richard) Carr, and Jamie Weinberg; and his grandparents, James and Dorothy Beavers; grandmothers, F. Eleanor Miller and Dona Danforth; and his grandfather, Leonard Mahnesmith.

"He always stood up for what he believed in, even if the end result was not in his favor. The family is so proud of the man Dan had grown to be. He was truly a person who touched and inspired everyone he met. He will always be remembered as a hero in the hearts of those who love him."
