Professional Sprint Car Driver. Ronald Henry "Doc" Dawson was a great competitor among the sprint car drivers of the 1960s and 70s. After graduating from high school, he became a truck driver before entering car racing. During a practice session, he was critically injured after his car hit the wall while racing on the mile at Springfield, Illinois fairgrounds on October 3, 1976. He died hours later at a hospital. He was married and had a son and a daughter. He had been a United States Auto Club (USAC) driver and was a member of International Motor Car Association (IMCA).
