Auto Race Car Driver. The winner of the 1972 Indianapolis 500 and the Can Am in 1973. He had actually retired from racing but came back when car owner Roger Penske wanted to go into Formula 1 racing. He was testing a car in Austria when he lost control of the car and crashed through a steel barrier and an advertising sign. He sustained a fatal head injury from the crash.
