Arvel Sherman Allen, 82, of Seaman, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 20, 2010 at Crestwood Nursing Home in Hillsboro.
He was born Aug. 12, 1928 in Liberty, Ky., the son of the late Joe and Jemamia (Peck) Allen.
He had retired as a self-employed electronic repair technician. A U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Jr. O.U.A.M., and the Blanchester Lodge No. 191 F. & A.M.
Surviving are his three daughters, Patricia (Rick) Garrett of Hillsboro, Belinda (Lonny) Schoch of Hillsboro, and Cheryl (Mark Jones) Pierson of Lynchburg; two sons, Stephen (Shelly) Allen and Richard (Patti) Allen, both of Lynchburg; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arlis Allen, of Liberty, Ky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorine A. Allen; two sons, Matthew Allen and Tim Allen; a grandson, Richard Scott Garrett; four brothers; and one sister.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 212 S. High St., Hillsboro with Fr. Mike Paraniuk officiating. Burial will follow in the Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 22 at Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, 138 East Main Street, Hillsboro. The Masonic Lodge will have memorial services at the funeral home on Friday evening.
Contributions in Mr. Allen's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lupus Foundation.
