Irene Minter Adkins, 86, of Collinsville, VA died Saturday, November 16, 2013 at her residence. She was born on February 27, 1927 in Leatherwood, VA to the late Posey L. Minter and Betty Richardson Minter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Arnold Adkins; sister, Elizabeth M. Thornton and brothers, Willard Minter, Clyde Minter, and Dewey E. Minter.

Mrs. Adkins was an active member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA since 1982. She volunteered with the Women's Missionary Union at the church as well as the Blue Ridge Library's literacy training program. Mrs. Adkins loved her annual trips to Florida with her husband Bill to watch baseball's spring training. Her family remembers her very caring nature and commitment in taking care of others.

Mrs. Adkins is survived by her daughter, Shirley Craven of Snow Creek, VA; sons, Stan Adkins of Collinsville, VA, Dennis Roy Adkins of Collinsville, VA, Bruce Allen Adkins of Collinsville, VA, and Ken Arnold Adkins of Snow Creek, VA; sisters, Dorothy M. Clark of Bonsack, VA and Helen M. Wright of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Clifford L. Minter of Martinsville, VA, Billy R. Minter of Floyd, VA, and Jackie L. Minter of Leatherwood; grandchildren, Brooke Kirk of Bassett, VA, Jeremy Craven of Bassett, VA, Hope MacDonald of Woodbridge, VA, Christopher Allen Adkins of Lynchburg, VA, Jessica Mason of Henry VA, Cameron Lee Adkins of Collinsville, VA, Elizabeth Anne Adkins of Martinsville, VA, Jacob Adkins of Martinsville, VA, and Caroline Adkins of Martinsville, VA; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Kirk of Bassett, VA, Reese MacDonald of Woodbridge, VA, Daniel Craven of Bassett, VA, Reagan MacDonald of Woodbridge, VA, Sawyer Mason of Henry, VA, Isaac Craven of Bassett, VA, and Ian Kirk of Bassett, VA.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Starling Avenue Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA with Dr. David W. Adkins officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel.

Burial will be on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, VA following the service at the church.
