Boyd Lester Ashby, 97, of 1650 Circle Creek Road, Penhook, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Stanleytown Health Care Center in Bassett.
He was born in the Leatherwood community on March 30, 1910, to Minnie Minter Ashby and Johnnie Ashby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Mae Martin Ashby; one sister, Thelma Ashby Donavant; six brothers, John Ashby, Ocie Ashby, Andrew Ashby, George Ashby, Robert Ashby and Melvin Ashby; and two grandchildren.
He was a farmer and retired from Gravely Furniture. He was a member of Leatherwood Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Shirley Ashby McBride of Figsboro; three sons, Jimmy Lester Ashby of Penhook and Carroll Ashby, both of Penhook, and Jerry Ashby of Figsboro; one brother, Larry Ashby of Martinsville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Norris Funeral Services with Elder Thomas Radford, Minister Tim Wood and the Rev. J.D. Harmon officiating.
