Violet Coleman Anderson, 90, of Rocky Mount, quietly went to Heaven on Tuesday, May 31, 2011. She will be greatly missed by a large family and many friends. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Sydnorsville. Her special gift to the church for many years was sharing beautiful flowers from her garden. Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Tillie Anderson; and her sisters, Elsie Sink and Elizabeth Long. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Dave, Morton, Raymond, and Bill Coleman.
Violet will be missed by four daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Selma (Duck) Akers, Delphie and Darryl Grindstaff, Janice and George Davis, and Tammi and Danny Mitchell; one son and his wife, Larry and Delores Anderson. Grandma Violet is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Susan A. Hodges, Robin and Dana Wunderlich, Karen A. Hagy, Ken and Amy Grindstaff, Keith and Alissa Grindstaff, Dana and Brian Constable, Christy and Dave Ploch, Carrie and Scott Glasscock, Robin Davis and Partner Becky Smith, Kevin and Laura Anderson, Brock and Megan Anderson, Cameron, Nick and Holden Mitchell; 17 great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Zack Hodges, Megan and Tyler Wunderlich, Braeton and Caroline Hagy, Kaleb and Skylar Grindstaff, Coleman and Benjamin Grindstaff, Christian, Owen and Violet Constable, Samuel Ploch, Taylor Anderson, and Isaac and Levi Anderson. Violet is also survived by sister-in-law and husband, Lillian and Bobby Parcell; sisters-in-law, Mildred Anderson, Buna Anderson, Ernestine Anderson and Lorene Coleman; brother-in-law and wife, Floyd and Sandi Anderson. She will be especially missed by special friend and pet, Peppi.
The family wants to thank Debbie Athey, Violet's caregiver for the past year. Debbie was a wonderful nurse and special friend.
Funeral Services will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Sydnorsville at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011, with the Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Anderson Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Flora Funeral Service on Thursday, June 2, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. and other times at the family home.
