He was born in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Ed and Zella (Russell) Cloyd. He graduated from McAlester High School in 1939. He was a member of the Oklahoma All Star High School Football Team for two years from 1938 to 1939. He was also chosen the Captain of his high school football team. He later attended and graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Bette Sue McCorkle on Sept. 7, 1949 in Wewoka. Survivors include his wife, Bette Sue Cloyd; daughter Jennifer Leah and husband Frank D. Marco of McAlester; son, Kelly Chris and wife Monica Lynn Cloyd, Canadaigua, NY; sister, Robert Jean Morrison of Florida; and a brother, Clyde Clifton Cloyd, Independence, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Dean and Jim Cloyd, and a grandaughter, Heather Cloyd Marco.
