The youngest of nine children, Rosa Ella Lowry was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Lowry and Rebecca Farr Lowry, who came to Mississippi from South Carolina. Her father was a well-loved Methodist minister for over fifty years, and Ella was very active in the Methodist church activities since early childhood.

She was married to Joseph Crigler Davis on Jan. 25, 1888 in her parents' home in Prospect, Mississippi. The couple made their home with the Lowrys for many years before moving into a home of their own in Houston, Mississippi. For a number of years Joe was prominent in town and county affairs. After his death in 1930 she lived in Jackson, Mississippi with her daughters. She died Thursday morning, January 6, 1950.

Mrs. Davis was the mother of Mrs. Karenza Gilfoy, Curtis E. Davis, and Mrs. Elizabeth Dodds, in whose home she died. In addition to these children in Jackson she was survived by Mrs. Lester Lewis of Ridgeland and J. B. Davis of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Her passing was also mourned by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two of her children - Mary Ella Davis and Virgil B. Davis.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at the Baldwin Funeral Chapel in Jackson and in the afternoon at the Houston Baptist Church. Burial was in the family plot at the Houston Cemetery.
