Senator, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. Schultz was the fith LG of Manitoba. He arrived here as a merchant, eventually owning the Royal Hotel at Portage and Main. He also owned a newspaper, practiced medicine and was the leader of the Canada First Party. When Riel came to prominence, he quickly became Louis Riel's nemesis (amongst others). Riel eventually imprisoned Schultz and the myth is that Schultz escaped, breaking his leg in the process, but still walked across Winnipeg to seek shelter. He also served as a Member of Parliament for Lisgar.
