The son of Henry Felix & Catherine (Fehler) Kreiser, in 1860 he was living with his farming family in Union Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. By 1865, he stood 5' 4" tall and had sandy hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg March 8, 1865, mustered into federal service there March 9 as a private with the 101st Pennsylvania Infantry in the second organization of Co. D, and honorably discharged with his company June 25, 1865. He is in the company register and ARIAS as "Krizer."

Cause of his death is listed as "cardiac insufficiency" with a "fractured clavicle" a contributing factor.
