"William Wright, Pipeman of the Texas Hose Carriage #8 died January 27, 1891 from that dreaded disease, consumption, which was contracted at the Dayton Spice Mills fire, November 13, 1889. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery. During the time William Wright was in the service he served with zeal and devotion, and the fire department has been deprived of the services of a brave and noble fireman, and its members of a comrade whose memory and many sterling qualities will ever be cherished and respected."

His funeral was held January 27, 1891 from his residence on Air Street in North Dayton and at St. Joseph's Church. The firemen attended in a body.
Fireman Wright served five years in the regular army with an honorable discharge and joined the fire department in 1886.
