District Chief Edward Madigan was killed after responding to a false alarm at the Beckel Hotel. Madigan was struck and killed just as he stepped out of his car by a Dayton Power and Light emergency truck that also responded to the scene. D.C. Madigan was stationed at Co. 1 at Fifth and Brown Streets. He was 54 years old.
Madigan was promoted to Captain on June 12, 1902, and then to the rank of District Chief on March 22, 1905.
He is buried in Calvary Cemetery.
