Jeffery Alan Cocke, 59, of 1818 Sunset Drive, Altavista died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Vickie Bowyer Cocke.

He was born April 20, 1952 in Lynchburg, a son of Christine Keesee Cocke of Altavista and the late Claude Swanson Cocke. He was a member of Lane Memorial United Methodist Church, a retired employee of Abbott Labs with twenty-one years of service, and a part-time employee of Steve's Florist. Jeffery was a member of the Lynch Station Ruritan Club, the Altavista Fire Company for over thirty-nine years, and an umpire with the Colonial Official Association.

He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Monroe and her husband Jeff, and Christy Murray and her husband Brian; three grandsons, Jordan and Jackson Monroe, and Joshua Murray, all of Altavista; one brother, James Cocke and his wife Cathy of Lynchburg; one uncle, Paul Cocke and his wife Doris of Hurt; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Altavista Combined School Gymnasium by the Rev. Alan Combs and Rev. Rick Woodall with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m., Sunday at Altavista Combined School Gymnasium and other times at the residence.
