MOUNT STERLING, O., March 6, - (AP) - Herman Carter, 82, retired manufacturer and one of Madison county's wealthy men, shot and killed himself at his home here today. Members of the family could give no reason for his act.

Wealthy Mt. Sterling Octogenarian Ends Life

MT. STERLING, OHIO, MARCH 7, (AP) - Herman Carter, 82, who made his fortune in the manufacture of wire fencing and from patents on a fence lock, ended his life yesterday by shooting himself. He was a Methodist minister for 30 years.

Carter owned several Madison County farms and was a bank director. He formerly operated the village waterworks and had served several terms on the board for public affairs.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Belle Carter; two daughters, Miss Elizabeth Carter and Mrs. Evelyn Parker; a son, Edward, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Mt. Sterling M.E. church, with burial in Mt. Sterling cemetery by E. T. Snyder.
