Jimmy D. Cain, age 70, died November 30, 2013, in Houston, Texas. He was dearly loved by friends and family for whom he was a wonderful friend and constant support. Wherever he went he brought people together and held them together. He was born in Birome, TX on December 3, 1942. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Cain, & daughter Michelle, granddaughter Jennifer, and a broad extended family.
Jim grew up in Central Texas and Brownsville before serving in the Navy. He earned degrees in Meteorology and Oceanography from Texas A & M where he was an enthusiastic member of the Singing Cadets. He was co-owner of Cain & Barnes, L. P.. In his profession he was known as a man of legendary integrity, good humor, and reliability, and was internationally recognized and honored in the field of geodesy. Jim was active in the International Palm Society and he and Liz traveled extensively to their biennial meetings. His other hobbies include Caribbean travel, snorkeling and genealogy research.
Visitation will be at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX, Tuesday, December 3 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral is Wednesday, December 4, at 10 am at Emmanuel Episcopal Church,15015 Memorial Drive.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Texas A&M Alumni Association.
