Thomas was a son of Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Wood) Bancroft who were members of the Ponkapoag Indian Tribe. Thomas was a Civil War soldier from Canton, Mass. He enlisted Feb. 27, 1864 with served with the Co. G. 5th Mass. Cav. (African American Unit).
