Robert F. DiMatteo, 76, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 16 after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan M. (Smith) DiMatteo of 52 years. Born in Stoughton, he was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1951. In addition to living in Stoughton, he also enjoyed his second home in Yarmouthport for the past 21 years. Mr. DiMatteo was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of the Korean War. He was the owner of Bobs Market which later became Bobs Famous Food Mart in Stoughton since 1955 before retiring 2 years ago. Mr. DiMatteo was associated with Randolph Savings Bank since 1967 and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1993-2008. He also served as a Trustee at Goddard Memorial Hospital in Stoughton and was currently a trustee at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was a member of the Stoughton Lions Club, American Legion Post 89, Sons of Italy, Stoughton Chamber of Commerce and VFW Post 1645 all in Stoughton and the Mass. Package Store Assn. He sponsored several youth sports teams in Stoughton for many years. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family and leisure time at his Yarmouthport home. In addition to his wife, Mr. DiMatteo is survived by his children, Robert S. DiMatteo and his wife Marianne of Cambridge, Pamela J. Nelson and her fianc Thomas OConnell of Stoughton, Peter M. DiMatteo and his wife Catherine of Dennis, Donna M. McKeown and her husband John of Canton, Jeffrey S. DiMatteo and his wife Vernice of Franklin and Ronald J. DiMatteo and his wife Robin of Brockton. He was the brother of Frances Ricci and her husband Anthony of N. Providence and the late Richard DiMatteo. He was the brother-in-law of Carol DiMatteo of Marlboro. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte.27), Stoughton, on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 a.m. Visiting Hours Wednesday 3-8 p.m. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
