Norman J. Darling, 73, died at West Acres Nursing & Rehab. Center in Brockton on Thursday, September 29 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Catherine L. (Green) Darling for 38 years. Born and educated in Stoughton, Mr. Darling then lived in Easton for 21 years before returning to Stoughton in 1992. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Darling was a shoe cobbler and owner of Darling Shoe Repair in Stoughton in the 1960's and General Shoe Repair in W. Roxbury from 1988-1992. In between he was manager at Mur-Mac's Roast Beef and Anderson's Variety in Stoughton in the 1970's and 1980's. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and AMVETS in Stoughton and a former member of the Elks in Randolph. He was an avid golfer and member of the Cedar Hill Golf Club in Stoughton.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Darling is survived by his sons, Thomas Darling of E. Falmouth, Michael Darling of Brockton and Steven Darling of Milton. He is also survived by his sister, Florence Kelleher of Franklin, 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Ann Darling and his brother, Ronald Darling.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:15 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-6 PM. Donations in Norman's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Assn., 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, 02140. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.
